Eco-Friendly Laundry and EcoConscious Clothing Choices

March 5, 2019

Did you know that every time you do your laundry, the detergent you’re using ends up going down the drain — and eventually makes its way into our rivers, lakes and oceans? This is why it is so important to choose products that are safe for your clothes and safe for our environment as well. Clean your clothes, and keep the planet clean while doing it.

Make sure that you’re choosing to use an eco-friendly laundry detergent, like Molly’s Suds. Molly’s Suds is super EcoConscious and their detergents are safe for the environment. They use “earth and plant-derived ingredients to enhance efficiency and cut down on cleaning time without compromising your family’s health through exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals and carcinogens.”

Be sure to check out their website and all of their DIY laundry tips and tricks.

Did you know that when you wash your laundry, tons of microfibers get separated from your clothes and then end up in your washer BEFORE they even hit the dryer? These seemingly invisible microfibers are being washed down the drain and into our waterways and oceans causing pollution and harm to marine life.

Cora Ball is solving this problem! “Cora Ball is inspired by the way coral filters the ocean — it collects our microfibers into fuzz we can see, so we can dispose of microfibers in the right way. Together, we keep these microfibers out of our waterways and our ocean.” Just simply toss this ball in with your wash—remember to do this when you wash your Stream2Sea Rash Guards!

And check to see what kinds of fabric you’re buying. Our rash guards are made from plastic — but it’s recycled plastic so it’s saving oceans. Sweats, jeans, t-shirts, even sheets and pajamas are made with micro-fibers the feel good but shed tiny bits of plastic every time they go into the washing machine.

When it comes to choosing your clothing and making sure it’s eco-friendly — do your research. Companies like Toad + Co and EcoVibe Apparel have clothing lines that are sustainable and safe for the planet. If you’re not able to afford a big budget to swap out your entire wardrobe, just make sure you’re truly purchasing outfits that you LOVE. Wear them until they’re not wearable anymore. Donate clothing you no longer use. Go thrifting to find new outfits.

Once you’ve figured out your wardrobe and using safe products, you’ll also want to change up your laundry routine to make sure it’s as green as can be!
