Safe For You and Safe For Our Waters
What does tested & proven safe means for our bodies, waters and coral reefs?
Just because the front of the bottle might say it is reef safe does not mean that it is. That is because these terms are not yet regulated. You still need to look at the back, starting with the active ingredients listing. We have also discovered that just because a product is safe for people does not mean it’s safe in an aquatic ecosystem. Modern science has given us many lab tests to determine the safety of cosmetics, but there are currently few scientific lab tests to see if products are harmful to fish, coral and other aquatic life. We put Stream2Sea products through numerous studies to prove our safety, and believe that our products are the safest on the market for all your water, reef and outdoor activities.
Biodegradability Tests
It is important to know that just because a product is biodegradable for example, a biodegradable sunscreen, does not mean that it is non-toxic. To be considered ‘readily biodegradable’, the product must break down into its natural state from 60-80% in 28 days. Stream2Sea products are readily biodegradable in fresh and salt water.
Reef and Marine Life Safety Tests
Swimming behavior with Stream2Sea biodegradable mineral sunscreen is relatively unaffected, whereas the competitor sunscreen most definitely altered the fish’s swimming behavior.

Great product. Does take a couple of times to learn how to properly apply on the face so that you do not look like a ghost :). But on the first two days of use, I was glad to have that extra protection. Stays on well before, during and after hanging out in the water. No stinging of the eyes or overwhelming smell like we have had with other suncare products. We like the benefits of “good for you and good for the ocean” since we spend a lot of time at the beach!

Excellent products, excellent customer service. Originally there was a problem with my order, but I sent them an email and was more than happy with the response I received. They sent me the corrected order right away, and included a handwritten apology. Aside from all that, I have been more then happy with the products. I’ve only used them once, but so fare the shampoo and conditioner have worked wonderfully with my dry, damaged waves (2b/2c). The shampoo especially felt more like a low-poo, but it still left my hair clean. I don’t typically burn, so instead I used the relief gel on my face after plucking my eyebrows and upper lip, and in minutes the normal redness and stinging I get had faded. The tinted sunscreen matches my skin surprisingly well. Maybe a little bit too dark/pink, but I would feel comfortable wearing it out in public (for reference, I wear CoverFx N40). As for the non-tinted sunscreen, it did leave a white cast, but not super strong. If you wanted to wear it for your everyday sun protection, try getting a cheap powder foundation from the drugstore. I had an old one, and it worked well. I didn’t notice any negative effect on the functionality of the product. The lip balm smells nice, but it does also have a white cast, so you need to really rub it in or cover it with another product. Overall, these were all really solid products and I fully plan to repurchase in larger sizes!
