I'll be honest, when this Stream 2 Sea Naturally Naked Shampoo & Body Bar first arrived, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. A fragrance-free bar that doubles as both shampoo and body wash? I was skeptical and wasn't sure it could really deliver on both fronts. But after giving it a fair shot, I'm genuinely impressed and glad I stuck with it! It lathers up much better than I expected for a bar, leaving hair feeling clean, soft, and healthy without any harsh stripping, a credit to the nourishing blend of coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and hydrolyzed rice protein. The sulfate-free formula is wonderfully gentle on my sensitive scalp, and the panthenol and squalane leave everything feeling conditioned rather than dried out. I also came to appreciate the thoughtful ingredient list featuring wakame seaweed, green tea, and tulsi leaf extracts. This is clearly a bar crafted with real care. The lack of fragrance, which I initially questioned, turned out to be a huge plus for my sensitive skin. And the eco-friendly bonus of being plastic-free, biodegradable, and reef-safe makes it a product you can feel genuinely good about using. Compact, long-lasting, and surprisingly versatile, this one totally won me over. Highly recommend giving it a chance, even if you're on the fence like I was!
As a bald man, I was unable to evaluate the effectiveness of this bar as a shampoo - sorry! As a soap though, it does a heck of a job hitting all the requirements I have for a soap bar. First, it doesn't have much of a smell - neither a perfume nor a "soap bar" smell. There is some scent to it, but it's a very minor and neutral smell, and is unlikely to bother those with fragrance sensitivities. Second, this lathers up like crazy! I lathered it up in my Japanese-style washcloth, and not only did it lather up more than my standard soap bar, it almost lathered up too much, taking more effort to rinse out of the washcloth after use than I expected. And lastly, after rinsing off my skin felt notably soft; not that slick "the hardness of the water makes my skin feel slippery" feeling, but just a nice softness, notably more so than my standard soap bar does. For the price I don't see myself using this as an everyday at-home soap bar; at the time this review was posted this runs about $7 more than my standard, small-business-made soap bars (and is also about half the size). That said, I would absolutely grab this for a camping or backpacking trip where I might need to shower/bathe outside; first because of its reef-safe formulation, and secondly because of its lack of distinct fragrance.Overall I'm very pleased with this soap, and acknowledging that it has some more specific (rather than general) use cases I think it succeeds very well at doing what it's trying to accomplish.
I liked this bar way more than I could have anticipated. It is unscented, meaning no added scent - but it does have a very slight herbal scent from the ingredients. It is extremely effective at cleaning. I was able to get my makeup and deodorant off with minimal effort - my two usual spots where I really need to scrub. I didn't find it very moisturizing, but that's not a deal breaker for me as I use other moisturizing products. The bar has been used for a couple of weeks now, and we still have a decent chunk left, so I am happy with the amount of use we are getting out of it. It is slightly on the pricy side, but I am impressed with the thoughtfulness of the ingredients and the effectiveness of the bar, so I don't think it's a bad value by any stretch. I will likely buy another one for upcoming travels - I have a soap tin that I like to use to avoid bringing liquids on the plane.
It lathers up easily and doesn't have that harsh chemical smell you get with some travel soaps. As a shampoo it rinsed out clean without leaving my hair feeling stripped or waxy which is usually my main complaint with bar soaps. The shea and cocoa butter definitely make a difference because it left my skin feeling soft rather than dry after a long day in the sun. It is a good size for a soap dish and didn't turn into a mushy mess after sitting in the travel container for a few days. Effective and a good value
Based on the experiences of other divers and their general feedback, I am positively predisposed to the Stream 2 Sea brand. I have used and been happy with their sunscreen.I really like the idea of reef safe products especially when I am diving in places that don't necessarily have great waste processing infrastructure. The only other shampoo bar I'd tried didn't work out for me and I had given up on them, but I'm glad I decided to try this anyway because the solid format is great for travel and this worked out well.I found it very easy to use and it lathered well. It did not feel like more effort than liquid soap and shampoo, which I appreciate.I don't know if it's true, but it *felt* more effective at cleaning to me than the liquid version. I felt clean and I liked how my skin and hair smelled after. I didn't have any scalp irritation or skin tightness. At $12.95, it feels like a better value than the liquid product, which goes pretty fast for me. I am happy with the efficacy and value!I am curious to try the naturally naked variety as well, and I plan to restock.
