Mineral sunscreen
your whole family
can actually trust.
Most sunscreens marketed as "reef-safe" contain oxybenzone and octinoxate — chemicals banned in Hawaii for damaging coral reefs. Stream2Sea's mineral sunscreens use only non-nano EcoSafe Zinc™, are EWG Verified™, pediatrician-approved, and get stronger in water.
Most "reef-safe" sunscreens
aren't reef-safer at all.
"Reef-safe" is an unregulated marketing term. Any brand can print it on any bottle — no testing, no standard, no accountability. What actually matters is what's in the formula. Here's what most sunscreens don't tell parents.
Oxybenzone — in most conventional sunscreens
Oxybenzone is absorbed through the skin, detected in blood, breast milk and urine after a single application. It's also been linked to coral DNA damage at concentrations as low as 62 parts per trillion. It's banned in Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands and Palau. Stream2Sea has never used it.
Octinoxate — banned at dive sites worldwide
Another chemical UV filter linked to coral bleaching and hormonal disruption in marine species. Also banned in Hawaii. Also absent from every Stream2Sea formula. The only active ingredient in our sunscreens is non-nano EcoSafe Zinc™ — evaluated for both human and aquatic impact.
Kids absorb more through their skin — the formula matters more
Children's skin is thinner and more permeable than adults'. Chemical UV filters that absorb into the bloodstream do so at higher rates in children. The 4 Kids formula uses the same non-nano EcoSafe Zinc™ but is enriched with chamomile and calendula for sensitive skin — and is pediatrician-approved.
One formula for the kids.
One for everyone else.

The only mineral sunscreen that gets
stronger in water.
Most sunscreens lose 30–60% of their SPF after 80 minutes in water. Stream2Sea's WetBoost™ Technology is water-activated — when it contacts water, it reinforces the mineral barrier, forming a more flexible, even layer. That means your kids' sunscreen is actually working harder the moment they jump in.
How to apply mineral sunscreen correctly
Mineral sunscreen applies differently from chemical sunscreen. These four steps make the difference between patchy coverage and full protection.
Apply to dry skin
Water-activated formulas work best on dry skin. Apply before heading outside — not at the water's edge.
⏱ 15 min before sun exposureApply in sections
Never apply a large glob in one spot. Work in small sections — forehead, cheeks, nose, chin — and rub in fully before moving to the next area.
A little goes a long wayRub in thoroughly
Take 30–60 seconds to blend each section. The formula sheers out as you work it in — no white cast when applied correctly.
No white cast when blended wellReapply after water
After 80 minutes in the water, towel drying, or heavy sweating — reapply. WetBoost™ keeps working in the water, but nothing replaces reapplication.
⏱ Every 80 min in water"I believed my early prototypes would pass aquatic safety testing. They didn't. That failure changed everything. I reformulated from scratch — not to pass a test, but because I refused to sell a product that could harm the reef my customers were swimming on. Every ingredient in Stream2Sea has been through that process."
Parents who've made the switch
"I've been searching for a sunscreen that doesn't burn my son's eyes and doesn't have the ingredients I've been worried about since I started researching. Stream2Sea is it. He actually doesn't fight me on application anymore."
"I found Stream2Sea on the EWG website. All their sunscreens got the highest possible rating — so I had to try it. The tinted version is now my everyday moisturiser and sunscreen. No white cast, no greasy feel. Genuinely love it."
"We have four kids and go through sunscreen constantly. The 32 oz size is the only reason this fits in our budget. Same formula, way less plastic waste, and I'm not running out at the beach anymore. Will not go back to regular sunscreen."
"We needed a Hawaii-compliant sunscreen and didn't want to compromise on quality. Stream2Sea ticked every box — EWG Verified, no banned ingredients, the kids formula doesn't sting eyes. It came in time for our trip and worked perfectly."
Not satisfied? We'll make it right.
Every Stream2Sea formula is made to perform. If it doesn't meet your expectations, email hello@stream2sea.com and we'll sort it — no awkward returns, no runaround.
What parents ask us most
Why is oxybenzone a concern for families?
Oxybenzone is a chemical UV filter that absorbs through the skin into the bloodstream. Studies have detected it in blood, urine and breast milk after a single application. Children absorb it at higher rates due to thinner, more permeable skin. It's also linked to coral bleaching at concentrations as low as 62 parts per trillion. Stream2Sea has never used oxybenzone or octinoxate in any formula.
What does EWG Verified™ actually mean?
EWG Verified™ is the highest standard in the Environmental Working Group's rating system. It requires every ingredient — not just the active UV filter — to meet EWG's standards for human safety and environmental impact. Products are independently reviewed, not self-certified. Most sunscreens don't have it because the full ingredient list doesn't pass. All Stream2Sea everyday sunscreens are EWG Verified™.
Will it leave a white cast on my kids' skin?
Not if applied correctly. Mineral sunscreen gets a bad reputation for white cast, but Stream2Sea's formula is specifically designed to sheer out. The key is applying in small sections and rubbing in thoroughly — about 30–60 seconds per area. Never apply a large glob in one spot. When blended properly, it sits invisibly on most skin tones.
How does WetBoost™ Technology work?
WetBoost™ is a patent-pending technology that makes Stream2Sea sunscreens water-activated. When the formula contacts water, it reinforces the mineral barrier rather than washing away like most sunscreens. Independent testing shows the formula performs 45% better after 80 minutes in water compared to initial dry-skin application. Most sunscreens lose 30–60% of their protection after the same period.
Is the 4 Kids formula different from the adult formula?
Yes. The 4 Kids formula uses the same non-nano EcoSafe Zinc™ active ingredient, but the base is enriched with chamomile and calendula specifically chosen for sensitive children's skin. It's pediatrician-approved, does not burn eyes, and has been evaluated for the higher absorption rates in children's thinner skin. It's not just a rebrand of the adult formula.
Why is a pump head sold separately for the 32 fl oz?
The 32 fl oz bulk bottle is designed for refilling smaller containers — beach bottles, travel sizes, dispenser pumps. Selling the pump separately keeps the price of the bulk size lower and reduces waste, since most families already have dispensers. The pump is available separately on the site and fits the 32 fl oz bottle directly.
Is Stream2Sea sunscreen compliant with Hawaii's sunscreen ban?
Yes. Hawaii's sunscreen ban prohibits oxybenzone and octinoxate — the two chemical filters most commonly linked to coral damage. Stream2Sea has never used either. Every formula uses only non-nano mineral UV filters. You can travel to Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, Palau and any other reef-protected destination with Stream2Sea sunscreen without any compliance concerns.
