CLEARING UP THE CONFUSION
Environmental testing and cosmetic animal testing are not the same.
Stream2Sea does not test finished cosmetic products on mammals or traditional laboratory animals. We fully support global cosmetic animal testing bans.
We test to protect — not to harm.

COSMETIC ANIMAL TESTING — WHAT’S BANNED AND WHERE
Banned in:
- EU
- UK
- Many U.S. states
Applies to mammalian/vertebrate testing for cosmetic safety.
ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING — A DIFFERENT CATEGORY
Environmental testing may involve non-vertebrate species (like coral or algae) when:
- No alternatives exist
- The goal is ecosystem protection
- The work is performed by qualified scientists
OUR WORK WITH CORAL SCIENTISTS
We collaborate with partners such as the University of Derby using asexually propagated coral fragments, never wild colonies.

MYTH VS FACT
Myth: Mineral sunscreens are automatically reef safe.
Fact: Mineral grade, coatings, and formula matter.
Myth: Natural = ocean safe.
Fact: Many natural oils and extracts are toxic to aquatic life.
Myth: If a brand says “reef safe,” they must have proven it.
Fact: The term is unregulated.
Myth: Not testing is more ethical.
Fact: Lack of testing can cause ecosystem harm.
