I BELIEVED MY PRODUCTS WOULD PASS. THEY DIDN’T.

As an experienced cosmetic chemist creating formulas for health-conscious consumers, I believed our early prototypes would be safe for fish and coral.

I was wrong.

Those failures were the most important results I’ve ever received.

OUR EARLY TESTING

Early one-time aquatic safety studies included:

  • Freshwater fish
  • Saltwater fish
  • Coral larvae
  • C. elegans

Instead of passing with flying colors, the earliest formulas caused stress and toxicity… unacceptable scientifically and ethically.

WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE HADN’T TESTED?

  • Potentially harmful formulas would have entered sensitive waters.
  • We would have relied on assumptions instead of data.
  • Stream2Sea would not be one of the world’s most tested reef-safer sunscreen brands.

HOW TESTING SHAPED OUR MODERN STRATEGY

  • We prioritized non-nano titanium dioxide first
  • We later identified a zinc oxide that met our standards
  • It’s never just about the active ingredients
  • We removed ingredients commonly used even in “clean” brands
  • We built reef safety into every formula from day one

OUR PROMISE MOVING FORWARD

Stream2Sea’s commitment remains clear:

  • No animal testing of cosmetic products, but rather ethical, science-based environmental testing only when necessary to help safeguard our reefs for future generations
  • Relentless improvement through data, not trends
  • Always putting the ocean first

Choosing Stream2Sea means choosing products created with intention, science, and the deepest respect for our blue planet.
