Hawaii safe sunscreen! Travel to destinations with sunscreen bans like Hawaii, US Virgin Islands, Palau & more with our 100% mineral sunscreens.
Stream2Sea was founded in 2015 in Wauchula, FL after a dive trip in Palau made CEO & Founder Autumn Blum realize that the products we put on our bodies have many ingredients that could be highly toxic to our fragile aquatic ecosystem and even to us.
Today, Stream2Sea is the only mineral based sunscreen on the planet that’s been tested and proven safe for freshwater fish, saltwater fish, and coral larvae, and has passed the stringent HEL Labs Protect Land + Sea certification.

Safe For You and Safe For Our Waters
What does tested & proven safe means for our bodies, waters and coral reefs?
Just because the front of the bottle might say it is reef safe does not mean that it is. That is because these terms are not yet regulated. You still need to look at the back, starting with the active ingredients listing. We have also discovered that just because a product is safe for people does not mean it’s safe in an aquatic ecosystem. Modern science has given us many lab tests to determine the safety of cosmetics, but there are currently few scientific lab tests to see if products are harmful to fish, coral and other aquatic life. We put Stream2Sea products through numerous studies to prove our safety, and believe that our products are the safest on the market for all your water, reef and outdoor activities.
It is important to know that just because a product is biodegradable for example, a biodegradable sunscreen, does not mean that it is non-toxic. To be considered ‘readily biodegradable’, the product must break down into its natural state from 60-80% in 28 days. Stream2Sea products are readily biodegradable in fresh and salt water.
Reef and Marine Life Safety Tests
Swimming behavior with Stream2Sea biodegradable mineral sunscreen is relatively unaffected, whereas the competitor sunscreen most definitely altered the fish’s swimming behavior.

I can feel good about swimming in the ocean without worrying about destroying the coral reefs because this sunscreen not only works great, but it also protects them. Regards, Stream2Sea

I adore it, adore it, adore it!

Excellent protection, although after applying it, we appeared to be escaping vampires. Applying is not simple. We were going kayaking in a protected region, so we couldn’t care less about how we looked and were more focused on avoiding harming the reefs. Even after spending some time in the water, the protection is excellent.

This is something I got for a July trip to Cancun. Yes, it left white splotches everywhere, including on my clothes, but who cares? Everyone will have white streaks on them if you visit a location where using eco-friendly sunscreen is compulsory, and the white streaks will also show through your clothing. When using this lotion, I didn’t burn as easily as I usually do. This was Cancun in JULY, once more. When I had been in the water for a while or if I was perspiring a lot, I kept reapplying. However, despite being quite pale and Irish, my partner did burn, albeit considerably less than usual. fantastic for water parks or beaches

We recently bought two reef-safe sunscreens for a trip. The chemicals in sunscreen are thought to be one of the main reasons why coral reefs are being destroyed and dying all over the world. Reef-safe sunscreens differ from conventional sunscreens in a number of ways; ideally, as they gain popularity, better formulations will be created. Since Stream2Sea is so thick, it is challenging to rub it in. It left a white cast on our skin. Our fair skin was successfully shielded from the Hawaiian sun by it. Please think about using sunscreen that is reef safe; preserving the reefs is worth the sacrifices.

starts off chalky. prefer Majestic Pure.
Catalina D. (verified owner) –
Very effective. expensive for the quantity provided. However, skin will be pale; be ready.
Loraine W. (verified owner) –
extremely beautiful texture It absorbs effectively within the required 15 minutes before sun exposure and is simple to massage in. I’m going to wear this every time I swim or scuba dive from now on. Fantastic product, and it’s great to see people caring more about what they put in our lakes, rivers, and seas!
Pearl (verified owner) –
Although the sunblock was excellent, it turned you completely white. Wearing it while snorkeling close to coral reefs is safe.
Victoria N. –
This is a truly amazing product — goes on easily even for daily use — and I love knowing that I’m not washing toxic chemicals down my drain when I take it off at night.
Faye W. (verified owner) –
The most amazing thing about this sunscreen, apart from the fact it is reef friendly of course, is that it really does stay put and does not sting eyes. As a scuba diver this is very important. This sun screen kept my fair skin completely safe in very strong sun. The tinted version is a lovely subtle shade that doesn’t have the white tint like the original. Fantastic product!
Amie D. (verified owner) –
Works nicely, but while wearing it, you look quite pale.
Marshall C. (verified owner) –
stays on even after swimming in salt water; in fact, it is very challenging to wash off and may linger for more than a day.
Diana D. (verified owner) –
This sunscreen is awesome! Most importantly, I know I am helping to protect the reefs. I love that it doesn’t feel greasy or have a weird smell. The tint matches my skin color well so I can wear it anytime!
Margaret B. –
I will highly recommend this product. I spent 8 days on a boat scuba diving and I never burned! The tinted product blended well and was not greasy. I will gladly spread the word. I used several products loved them all
Lisa H. –
The tint in this formula helps with the opaque quality of titanium dioxide. I think I’d like the option of a darker tint. As for it’s sunscreen protection, I have been very happy with it. I haven’t yet tried it’s water staying power, but I like knowing it works and it’s safe.
Adrian (verified owner) –
Works perfectly. However, I must admit that it adheres like cement. It will be obvious to both you and those around you that you are wearing it.
Sue C. –
So far I have used the tinted sunscreen, and I really like it. Not heavy, goes on nicely, all is good!
Haley (verified owner) –
a good product. In the future, I’ll buy more.
Steph H. (verified owner) –
Unless you take a shower, this substance does not wash off of your skin. I could still see some stains even after taking a shower. It was similar to applying diaper rash cream. But at least I didn’t get burned by it.
Oh I wish I could rate more than 5 stars. I’ve always had more fair skin that burns extremely easy even after applying sunscreen. I tried this kind out and after 6 HOURS, yes, 6 hours, at the lake with no reapplying and being in and out of the water and sweating, I did not burn at all. I didn’t even get pink! This sunscreen is my new holy grail. Will never buy anything else!!!
EAW (verified owner) –
Superb product. Spent two weeks snorkeling and surfing in Hawaii and never burned.
Autumn B. –
Thanks so much! Sounds like a wonderful trip 🙂
Elie S. (verified owner) –
I will admit that this stuff functions fantastically. But you can’t apply it like ordinary sunscreen by lathering it on. You will end up looking like a pail of white diet, just like I did, because it is much thicker. Given how little you need for each use, a bottle of this substance should last you the entire summer.
Joe B. (verified owner) –
No matter how well you massage it in, it still makes you look like Casper.
Cedrick (verified owner) –
This stuff worked wonders. Three stars are given since it never gets on your nerves. like always. even after spending hours in the pool or the ocean. Each night, I had to remove it with a washcloth and soap.
I love this product! You don’t need a lot of it for it to work. I have very fair skin and used it on a sail boat and snorkeling all day and didn’t get burnt! I also received it very fast, really impressed.

White in color and does not rub in
I was very excited to try out a new sunscreen. Full disclosure, I am what you call very fair skinned. I burn faster than the marshmallows roasting at you campfire….literally. So sunscreen is an absolute MUST for me. My first beach day of the Summer I had reapplied a 40SPF sunscreen 5 times throughout the day and still ended up a ripe tomato.
Now as I had said previously, I had a permit for the Narrows and thought that would be a great place to try it out with all the Sun and water, but the trail was closed. So my husband and I decided to take a day to drive from Zion to Lake Powell, where we rented a 2 person kayak and decided to kayak into Lower Antelope Canyon.
When first applying the tinted sunscreen, I immediately noticed the difference from other “white” sunscreens. You still have to rub it in very well, but you don’t have those white streaks running down you as you normally would. I was worried it wouldn’t blend well with my skin tone, but surprisingly it did. It also blended well with my husband’s skin who is much darker than me. I have quite a few tattoos and I noticed it did look kind of strange on ink. It was almost like you could tell there was a film of goo over the tattoo.
So we heading out in the kayak down into the canyon till we hit land, then began hiking in. We spent about 6 hours in direct sunlight without reapplying and I will say I did not even get pink. I normally would have burned to a crisp, but nothing, no redness on my shoulders or top of my thighs.
This stuff works!
There was however one thing I did not like about it…
It felt heavy. You could tell that you have sunscreen on. You could feel it.
It wasn’t sticky at all, but it did have just a certain feel to it, that you do not get with the spray, lightweight sunscreens we have nowadays.
Overall, my skin was protected. A whole day in the Sun mixed with splashing water and it felt good to not be paying for it in the morning with a huge sunburn!
Zach T. (verified owner) –
Effective but takes a while to absorb, and the white film is extremely obvious. Wish it weren’t so white and powdery, but quality stuff anyway.

diving, then returning to the FL Keys. the top models that are reef-friendly. Note that the non-chemical sunscreens have a maximum SPF rating of 30, but I believe that their 30 is superior to most 50-75 because it stays on when you perspire or are in the water. Just my viewpoint. It literally lasts all day when applied in small amounts as directed. Showering is necessary to remove it. We prefer slightly pasty white since it makes it obvious if an area is missed. Buy their skin tone version or switch back to the chemical version if you are concerned about style versus function.

So grateful there are ocean-safe items available! Although it doesn’t rub in very well, I don’t mind because it won’t harm coral or marine life.
Kathleen A. –
I used the tinted sunscreen and loved it! I found that applying sunscreen after my hydrating serum worked best for me.
Jackie H. (verified owner) –
I bought the tinted sunscreen because I was tired of spending a fortune on foundation that did nothing but burn a hole in my pocketbook. I learned about this product after I had already purchased a different product. Of the two, Stream2Sea was less expensive, even with shipping, and worked beautifully. It provides great coverage, smoothing out my complexion, while at the same time providing all the sunscreen my face needs. And, of course, it is people- and ocean-friendly. What’s not to love? A couple of points: Watch Autumn’s video before applying. She has a simple way to apply mineral sunscreen that is different from regular sunscreen, and it’s so much easier. Also: The tint looks darker coming out of the tube that it does on your face, so don’t be alarmed. I believe the tint will blend well with most complexions. I will definitely buy it again.

Since I purchased it, I have a huge number of boyfriends. a lot of. If you apply the right amount, there won’t be a thick layer of lotion on top, revealing my incredible tan. It is also the ONLY sunscreen with complete proof of safety for marine life. This is fantastic because I adore the ocean just as much as all of my lovers.
Orlando H. (verified owner) –
Little amounts go a LONG way! Observe their recommendations, dabbing a bit on, then rubbing it in. absolutely nice product, and the next day my skin feels wonderful.
Armando (verified owner) –
Fantastic product with an added bonus of being green!

My daughter was worried SPF20 wouldn’t be enough but I assured her it would. Was out for a whole day in the hot tropical sun with my wife and daughter and applied just a thin layer enough to cover our exposed skin and we didn’t even burn!
Nel (verified owner) –
So far, I enjoyed it.
Such a delight! Living in Miami it’s not easy to avoid the sun. I used to add a bit of foundation makeup to sunscreen to achieve what this product does. You don’t need much, and the coverage is great and lasts. Give it a try; you won’t be disappointed. Total bonus that it doesn’t harm the reefs too!

My main motivation for purchasing this sunscreen as a diver is to shield the reef from damaging toxins. I am therefore completely happy and would buy again for that reason. It’s crucial to note that this sunscreen is physical, leaving the user pallid white and requiring frequent reapplication (since it quickly rubs off), but I haven’t yet found a better one in which I feel as confident about reef safety. I’m grateful to Stream2Sea.
Ahmed (verified owner) –
I chose to try the sunscreen with a 20 percent SPF in both the regular and tinted variants because I adore the reef-friendly Stream2Sea conditioner. I once tried the tinted but was startled by how dark it was, so I don’t use it. Regular sunscreen is difficult to distribute on skin because it applies rather dry. I looked at the company’s video on how to use it. I gave it three tries before deciding it was too much work and I didn’t like the ghost face either. I wouldn’t buy it again.
Wendy M. –
Love this tinted sunscreen (and the regular one, too)! Having tinted for my face replaces the need for foundation when on dive trips where you really need great sunscreen all the time. Doesn’t sting my eyes in the water.
Julie G. (verified owner) –
I have been using this instead of expensive foundation. It works well as a sunscreen, evens out my skin tones, and lasts all day. I really love it. I came here today to buy more, and thought I would leave a review while I was here. Recommended!
The tinted sunscreen spf 20 is a great sunscreen to use on your face. I use it daily on my face and I like that it’s fragrance free and doesn’t burn your eyes.
Thank you Stream2Sea for making a great product!

offers fantastic sun protection. I went to the beach on the first day without wearing sunscreen, so on the second day I got sunburn. The product offered good protection, and I had no problems spending the second day in the sun. Although it was challenging to spread, the benefit is that it kept put when swimming in the ocean.
Elsie (verified owner) –
a stunning product that safeguards both the person and the environment. even serves as my basis.
Allie J. (verified owner) –
Excellent, I live on an island, and we protect the environment.
Clemente (verified owner) –
For our snorkeling excursions, we purchase the entire Reef Safe product line. While they all function well, I’m not a fan of the sunscreen because it never fully absorbs and stays visible on the face all day.
Merle (verified owner) –
Purchased the item since I plan to take a cruise to Cozumel, Roatan, and the Costa Maya, which only allow solar protection that protects coral reefs.
Very happy with the color and protection it provides. Only need a little to cover large area of skin. I use from head to toe when at the pool or beach and use daily on my face, instead of foundation. Very happy!
Emmanuel (verified owner) –
Even under the intense Caribbean sun, this functioned incredibly well! It is not as easy to apply as chemical suntan creams because it is environmentally friendly. It only needed a little more rubbing in. saving the sea coral was well worth it!
Jamir (verified owner) –
Regardless of how little you use or how hard you try to rub it in, white coverage still provides good results.
Gwen (verified owner) –
For recent visits to both Mexico and Hawaii, I bought this to be aware of protecting the reefs. The product is certified reef safe and functions well as sunscreen. When applied on your face, it leaves you looking white and pasty because it applies thickly and does not absorb effectively. Everything will be fine if you don’t mind seeming ghostly on the beach. The instructions’ fine print does say to use only a tiny bit?say, a dab?and to massage it in well. This is helpful because a little goes a long way, but it will significantly fade any tan you may already have. Again, it works OK as a sunscreen, but it’s not my fave.
I’m a brown person so usually sunblocks leave a white geisha cast on my face which is fine for workouts, but I don’t want it when I’m trying to look nice. This tinted sunscreen does a good job blending in for a more natural look, and I like that it doesn’t burn my eyes. I hate getting a little sweaty and having my eyes on fire. We’ve been super happy with these products and are permanent fans!

I am OBSESSED with Stream2Sea’s Everyday Tint Mineral Sunscreen 45 SPF.
I have been using Autumn’s formulations for decades and this is the best one yet!! Upon application, the sunscreen glides on smoothly without a trace of tackiness. The texture is perfect! My skin is prone to hyperpigmentation and to my delightful surprise, this sunscreen has evened its appearance. I have tried different formulas and brands. Also, I have been using it as my daily basic makeup foundation, and works just as well or even better than any foundation I’ve used.
Everyday Tint Mineral 45 SPF is a great addition to my healthy-aging skin regimen and I’m looking forward to ordering more!!!
Colleen M. –
I wanted to love this tinted sunscreen but it gets over EVERYTHING. My swimsuit is now stained. It protects from sun but I otherwise can’t recommend it.
Autumn B. –
Hi Colleen – when using the tinted sunscreen, we suggest applying in front of a mirror until you get used to it. If you over-apply then it can easily transfer onto your clothing, much like mineral make-up would. For the stain, we’ve found that leaving an enzyme based stain remover on over night then hand washing removes most stains. I’m sorry you had this experience and appreciate your feedback!
Autumn B. –
Hi Colleen – I’m so sorry to hear this! We always recommend applying sunscreen, especially our tinted, to dry skin at home and allow to dry before getting geared up. Once its dry, it doesn’t transfer any more than a mineral make up would.
